History
Biovica was founded in 2004 by the associate professor in medical virology Simon Gronowitz, the inventor of the original radioactive TK assay in the 80’s. After the original patent elapsed in 2003, Dr. Gronowitz set out to make a non-radioactive ultrasensitive assay for s-TK quantitation and founded Biovica AB.

The new assay proved to be 100 times more sensitive for measuring thymidine kinase than existing methods. In humans, where a certain background level a cell division activity is always present, this allows detection of 10 times smaller tumor mass than what has been possible with previous techniques.

The patent application was filed in 2005 and the DiviTum™ product was CE labeled in 2006. Biovica has performed several initial clinical trials on different tumor indications where it has been shown that the serum thymidine kinase level correlates with disease spread and is thus highly prognostic.
